Clack Calcite A8021-01 is calcium-carbonate filter media for gradually raising acidic-water pH under suitable design conditions. PT Watermart Perkasa supplies it in Indonesia; selection follows pH, alkalinity, hardness, flow, vessel size, bed depth, backwash, and the treated-water target.

Calcite, Birm, and Corosex are not interchangeable. Calcite provides gradual pH correction, Birm serves iron or manganese duty under suitable water conditions, and Corosex is a more reactive pH-correction medium. For iron or manganese problems, compare iron and manganese filter media using the water analysis, oxidation method, and backwash capacity.

When should Calcite media be selected for pH correction?

Consider Calcite when low pH is the main problem and gradual correction is preferable to a highly reactive medium. The Clack Calcite data sheet, reviewed 29 July 2026, explains that this calcium-carbonate medium dissolves slowly in acidic water, can add hardness, and requires periodic replenishment.

Do not select from inlet pH alone. Alkalinity, hardness, service flow, contact time, bed volume, freeboard, backwash capacity, and the outlet-pH target determine whether Calcite, Corosex, a designed blend, or another process is appropriate. Use the data-sheet revision current at procurement and require the quotation to state its design assumptions.

The data sheet also states that this filter media does not remove or kill bacteria. Drinking-water applications still require adequate disinfection, commissioning, sanitation, consumables records, representative sampling, and laboratory verification against applicable Indonesian requirements.

Calcite dissolves gradually and can add hardness, so monitor treated pH, media consumption, and filter-outlet water quality. Consider Corosex or a blend for faster correction only after the design and water target are reviewed.

How is the required number of Clack Calcite bags estimated?

Estimate Clack Calcite bags from the design bed volume, not the vessel’s total volume. The Calcite data referenced on this page lists A8021-01 in 0.55 cu. ft. or 50-lb bags and a 24–30-inch bed depth. Multiply the vessel’s internal cross-sectional area by the selected bed depth using consistent units, then convert that volume to a bag count.

Is the Calcite price per bag enough to compare quotations?

No. Compare the product code, volume and weight per bag, design media quantity, documents, delivery, and included work. A media-only offer is not equivalent to a package covering removal, loading, commissioning, sampling, or old-media handling.

What is the difference between Corosex and Calcite?

Corosex is magnesium oxide and reacts more rapidly, while Calcite is calcium carbonate with a more gradual response. The medium or blend depends on pH, alkalinity, hardness, flow, contact time, and backwash capacity.

Can Corosex be installed after RO?

Corosex may be considered for remineralisation or pH correction after RO, but media dose, contact time, resulting pH, and dissolved minerals must be tested. A higher pH alone does not establish that water is ready to drink.

What data is needed to select the medium?

Clack Birm®: Granular Filtration Media for Iron and Manganese Removal
