DuPont FilmTec NF vs RO Membranes Indonesia
Choose DuPont FilmTec NF or RO from target ions, product-water quality, pressure, recovery, and pretreatment. See the decision table for Indonesian projects.
Short answer: choose nanofiltration (NF) when the process needs selective separation, partial softening, or passage of some monovalent salts; choose reverse osmosis (RO) when the main target is broader dissolved-salt reduction. The final choice requires an ion analysis, product-water target, temperature, pressure, recovery, fouling and scaling risk, cleaning compatibility, and a manufacturer projection for the actual feed.
PT Watermart Perkasa, operating through water.co.id, supplies DuPont FilmTec NF and RO membranes with Codeline pressure vessels, cartridge prefilters, dosing pumps, and instruments for water-treatment projects in Indonesia. Families on this page include NF270, NF90, Hypershell, LiNE-XD, and SWBR for different duties.
Updated 29 July 2026. Design values must follow the selected model data sheet and a projection at actual feed conditions.
When should a project choose FilmTec NF or RO?
| Process target | Selection direction | Evidence to check |
|---|---|---|
| Partial softening or separation of divalent ions while passing some monovalent salts | Evaluate NF270 or another suitable selective NF family | Full ion analysis, hardness target, monovalent passage, organics, recovery |
| Higher salt rejection while retaining an NF design basis | Compare NF90 with RO under the same feed conditions | Conductivity/TDS target, critical ions, pressure, permeate flux, concentrate chemistry |
| Brackish-water desalination or broad dissolved-salt reduction | Evaluate brackish-water or other RO membranes | Salinity, permeate target, temperature, recovery, scaling, pretreatment, energy |
| Dairy or liquid-food processing | Evaluate a process-duty Hypershell NF/RO family | Product composition, sanitation, temperature, viscosity, cleaning, food-contact requirements |
| Selective brine, lithium, or magnesium separation | Evaluate LiNE-XD or SWBR only through an application design | Brine composition, target ions, pressure, scaling, materials, approved pilot or projection |
The FilmTec NF270 data sheet and FilmTec NF90 data sheet use defined test conditions; published flow and rejection values are not direct plant-capacity promises. Run a mass balance and projection for the actual feed, then prove results through commissioning and sampling.

Buyer questions about FilmTec NF and RO membranes
Does NF always operate at lower pressure than RO?
Not always. Required pressure depends on the model, feed composition and osmotic pressure, temperature, flux, recovery, pressure drop, and separation target. Compare NF and RO through projections built on the same feed and product basis.
Are NF270 and NF90 interchangeable?
Not automatically. Their passage and rejection characteristics differ. A model change can alter permeate quality, recovery, concentrate loading, required pressure, and scaling risk; run a projection and check the model data sheet before a retrofit.
What data is needed to select a membrane?
Prepare a full ion analysis, TDS or conductivity, pH, alkalinity, hardness, silica, organics, turbidity or SDI, temperature, flow, product target, recovery, operating hours, pretreatment, cleaning duty, and the existing vessel and element configuration.
Is NF or RO permeate automatically ready to drink?
No. Membrane selection alone does not prove drinking-water safety. The system still needs applicable Indonesian requirements, sanitation, commissioning, consumables records, representative sampling, and laboratory verification of relevant parameters.
