Does the HydraSmart Carbon Filter also soften water?

No. The carbon filter addresses targets such as residual chlorine, taste, odour, and some organic material within the media and inlet conditions. Hardness requires a HydraSmart Water Softener sized from measured hardness, water volume, and the target regeneration interval.

When should a Pentair C500 go before HydraSmart?

Consider a Pentair C500 automatic prefilter when incoming water carries coarse sediment that would load the carbon filter or softener. Suitability still depends on particle size, peak flow, pressure, and backwash space.

What should be checked during commissioning?

Check flow direction, bypass operation, dynamic pressure, leaks, backwash or regeneration settings, hardness before and after the softener, and drain discharge. Log water and salt use so settings can be corrected from actual operating data.
